Head of Lending & Capital Management, Private Banking

James is responsible for developing and delivering Coutts’ Lending proposition to clients. James took on this newly created role in June 2015, having previously been General Counsel for the Wealth division of RBS since September 2011.

James began his career at Allen & Overy before moving in-house in 2004 and has held a range of senior legal roles across the RBS Group, including General Counsel for the Markets business, interim Chief Risk Officer and interim Chief Compliance Officer for Wealth.

A Coutts Executive Committee member since 2011, James led the sale of Coutts International business early in 2015 and is currently focused on building a more efficient, commercial and organised Lending business across the Coutts and Adam brands. Recognised as one of the PAM 'Top 40 under 40' winners in 2014 and was shortlisted for the ‘Champion for Women’ award earlier in 2016.

James lives near Henley-on-Thames, with his wife Annie and four children. When he has the time, James likes to run and play golf. James is involved in a Thames Valley church, where he runs 'Messy Church' in a local estate.
