Around 1 in 6 adults in the UK suffer from poor mental health in a year such as anxiety and between 4 – 10% of people will experience depression in their lifetime. Shockingly, suicide remains the most common cause of death for men aged 20 – 49 in the UK.

Many of us are not aware of the signs of how it may affect those around us including our colleagues and family.

Starting conversations about mental health is so important, because it reminds us that there’s no shame in having a mental health problem and other people are experiencing the same thing. It also makes us feel more comfortable talking about the way we’re feeling (which is one of the key ways we can keep our minds healthy).

Organisations can play an important role in ending the stigma surrounding mental health, by encouraging employees to share experiences; together we can create a long standing commitment to supporting mental health in the work environment.

We have invited two speakers with personal and professional experience of mental health at work issues, to share their stories with you.

At the end of session, we hope you will have developed some ideas about how mental health issues can be discussed in the workplace and what you can do to help someone dealing with these issues.
